5 Ways to Use Curls in your Hair for Holiday Events

Whether they’re tight ringlets or voluminous waves, free-flying or manicured, curls are the way to go this holiday season. Whether the holiday event you’re attending is formal or casual, you’ll want to look festive and beautiful, and playing with curls can give you just the look for the occasion.

Let’s take a peek at 5 amazing looks that you can rock this holiday season, whether you have long or short hair, and whether your tresses are naturally bouncy or straight as boards.

Long, Loose Curls

If you have long hair, you don’t necessarily need to pull it all up in a complicated up-do for every event. Now, we’re not dismissing up-dos. They’re a lot of fun, and we even have one in this article, but there are times that your tresses need to be free.

So, whether you do a blow-out or use your flat iron to create loose, wavy curls around your shoulders and flowing down your back, you’ll be classic, classy, and stunning with this easy look.

Pin Curls

This look works for either long or short hair, and it’s a real classic. All you need to create pin curls is a small collection of bobby pins. You can use bejeweled or other decorated hairpins if you like, but the plain ones work, too.

Just twist a section of hair until it starts to curl up against your head. Roll it into a tight curl against your scalp, tuck the ends in, and pin it in place. If you do this with a row of curls framing one side of your face, you’ll get a classic, flapper-esque look that’s perfect for holiday parties.

An Up-Do with Face-Framing Curls

Choose your favorite up-do, whether it’s a puffy bun, pin curls, or an inverted braid. Now, leave a few locks free around your face. You can even let a few hang down around the back and sides. Just make sure they’re deliberately placed and not just messy. Now, just curl up those free-floating locks, and you’ll have a romantic, classic look for any formal occasion.

Half-Crown Braid with Curls

Half-crown braids circling the head have a formal but fun appeal, especially if you curl the rest of your hair so that it bounces around your neck and shoulders. This look works beautifully for both long and medium-length hair.

Just separate a small section of hair at each temple and braid each of them. You can choose to do French braids for a little more fancy look, or you can just do plain braids and tie them together in the back. Then let curl the free hair underneath, and you have a gorgeous holiday look.

Dressed Up Ponytail

If you don’t feel like doing much with your hair, but you do feel like looking glamorous, you can dress up a ponytail easily with some curls. First, pull your hair back into a smooth ponytail at about the middle of the back of your head.

Take a section of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the hair band to hide it. Tuck the ends in, and pin it in place. Now, just curl the ends of your ponytail, and you’re ready to go. You can also choose to free a few face framing locks and curl them, too.
